Founded in 2004 by the three musician brothers Nolan, Simon and Brian Quinn, the initial trio /q3/ gained immediate international recognition for its clever mixture of jazz and drum'n'bass music. It has repeatedly published audio and video productions, toured all over Europe and been awarded various prizes dedicated to jazz music. In 2008 it developed into the present collective.

Ever wondered what urban maintenance sounds like when you put it to a beat?
We improvise in electronic music. We put the ghost in the machine.

Southern Switzerland's most successful rhythm section meets upon nearby Italy's notorious saxophonist Tino Tracanna (Paolo Fresu, Fanco D'Andrea). Truly a team, as both sides' original compositions richly contribute to the repertoire.

Homeland pools talent and experience of both the original brother trio /q3/ and Swiss pianist Gabriele Pezzoli: a unit that constitutes the very core of the /q3/ collective. The repertoire features original works by all four musicians. Homeland entertains a standing collaboration with Parisian chromatic harmonica extraordinaire Olivier Ker Ourio.

Originating in the exact area where North meets upon South (Ticino, the only Italian-speaking portion of Switzerland), the Gabriele Pezzoli Trio musically situates itself between northern rarefied breadth and Mediterranean melodic pathos. The new repertoire, featuring Estonian bass virtuoso Taavo Remmel and Swiss-American drummer Brian Quinn, comprises original compositions shaped into a kaleidoscopic suite in perfect balance between group cohesion and the expression of the individual.

«Since I began playing the trumpet I’ve written only a handful of tunes that I’d say "still hold true", and those are the ones which encapsulate a mindscape, that mirror a very distinct place, albeit intangible. With the quintet we’re telling about these unseen places in a different way every night - with the jargon of the hip musician for this bit, with the nostalgia of the storyteller for that bit.»

Sunday - as simple as music should sound: improvisation opposed to strict score-based performance, palpable drum grooves although only three interweaving melodies are played, the strength and density of a quartet are evoked, yet a fragile but persistent chamber music atmosphere reigns.
